On page : optimization refers to all measures that can be taken directly within the website in order to improve its position in the search rankings. Examples of this include measures to optimize the content or improve the meta discription tags.
It is a one time process and it is done with the help of web designer or developer.
Off Page: optimization refers to all the measures that can be taken outside of the actual website in order to improve its position & help you to get higher ranking for your website. such as Social Networking (facebook,twitter,linked in, Youtube), Article Submission,Directory submission, Forum & Blog marketing, etc.
These are measures that help create as many high-quality backlinks (internal links) as possible.

Website Analysis – Website analysis is first step which comes under On Page Optimization. It is a tool through which we analyse the entire website and find out how well it is working or performing on search engine.
Competitor Website analysis : As the name suggests itself, Competitor Analysis means analyzing the on page as well as off page factors of your competitor website and finding our why it ranks high on the search engines with the chosen word.

Now, visit each of these websites with the help of above mentioned competitor tools (Ex : http://neilpatel.com/seo-analyzer/) one by one and analyse the factors given below:-
Keywords used in the website in( URL, Meta title, Meta description,Alt Text etc)
The relevancy of the content.
The page rank of the website.
The number of times the keyword is present on the webpage.
The presence of the website on Dmoz and other Directory Submission sites.
The number of back links to the website or to the webpage.
The use of anchor text on the Backlinks.
check the internal and external links of the website.
The number of Index pages pages of the website on search engines.
use of breadcrumbs and appearance of the website.
The use of heading and the bold the tags.
The Alex rank of the website.
The Social Media presence of the website.
The loading time of the site.
Please note:- While doing the Competitor Analysis, try to find out why the competitor site is helpful to the users, what kind of useful information the site is providing and prepare your own strategy accordingly, keeping the user in mind.
